Burns Bog Conservation Area

Synopsis

Burns Bog is about 3000 hectares of undeveloped urban wilderness, one of the largest in North America. It is a globally unique ecosystem, a stopover for at least 103 migratory bird species, home to rare and endangered species. Peat is the most efficient biological carbon sink on earth. Burns Bog is under constant threat of usurpation for highways, landfills, commercial and industrial development. The South Fraser Perimeter Road and MK Delta Lands Group proposal are the most recent threats.
