Apache (BP) Mist Mountain Coalbed Methane

Synopsis

Apache is evaluating approx. 325 sq km in the Crowsnest Coalfield, acquired in 2010 from BP. BP envisioned more than 1000 wells at full build-out; Apache is talking about 100-150 multi-well pads of ~10 wells/pad, over 50 years. In July 2010, BP drilled one exploration well and Apache intends to drill 10 "appraisal" wells per year. Concerns are about industrialization of wilderness, disruption of habitat, impacts on water in the Elk River watershed.
